from farmers’ fields to your fork…

LAND PREPARATION

Land is cultivated by forming fine structured beds to aid drainage and optimise growing conditions. Depending on soil type and conditions cultivations can vary to create the ideal seed beds.

PLANTING

A mechanical planter is used to plant out around 80,000 plants a day (circa 55 trays an hour). Fertiliser is applied at the same time as planting, combining operations reduces field traffic and helps to reduce the farms carbon footprint.

IRRIGATION

Young plants are irrigated after planting to help them establish roots. Following the Integrated Pest Management Plan crops are walked regularly by an agronomist to monitor crop health. We also use sensors to help aid decision making.

HARVEST

Teams of harvest staff hand cut the whole head lettuce into trays. They check for quality as they cut ensuring only good quality crop is harvested.

TRANSPORT

Leaves are transported in temperature-controlled environment to our HQ, to maintain freshness and quality. They are then washed and packed before heading to store.
