Florette teams up with nutritionist and menopause expert Emma Bardwell
Florette research shows that only half of UK households speak about women’s health, and even fewer are aware that nutrition can aid symptoms.
Women’s health can be a taboo topic for many people who may feel awkward or uncomfortable discussing it. In fact, research conducted this August by Florette shows that 50% of UK household never speak about women’s health including periods and the menopause. In the sample which comprised of 2000 UK adults, 1 in 6 admit that it is spoken about in their household, but men don’t tend to be involved in the conversations. Emma Bardwell, best-selling author and menopause nutritionist, is on hand to provide expert advice on how to break down these barriers around women’s health and how to manage menopause.
Different ways to approach menopause symptoms
Knowing how to treat menopausal symptoms is very important, but over a quarter (28%) of people say they don’t know enough, as it hasn’t been well taught and so wouldn’t feel confident helping someone going through it. Beyond medication, many women are unsure of how to treat menopausal symptom. Methods women weren’t aware of for treating symptoms are mindfulness (73%), vitamins (64%), and nutrition (59%).
Although incorporating more healthy food onto our plates such as salads can be very beneficial, nearly a quarter (24%) do not incorporate fruit and vegetables in their diet daily at all. Florette wanted to shine a light on the benefits of salad as a nutritional tool, through the vitamins and fibre it provides.

6 in 10 aren’t aware that using nutrition is a way to holistically manage symptoms.
Florette teamed up with Emma Bardwell, who specialises in helping women with menopause symptoms. As well as creating delicious recipes using Florette products and writing a blog which looks at the power of diet and lifestyle choices, Emma provided valuable insight into ways to approach the topic of menopause, and manage symptoms. Overall, she is encouraging people more generally to have open conversations about women’s health.
“My overarching advice when it comes to managing the menopause is to be prepared, not scared. With the right education, support and awareness, it can be an incredibly liberating and positive time of life and there are a wealth of strategies available to women to help them navigate their journey. In fact, much of what I do day to day is spent cutting through the sometimes-confusing dietary guidelines to bring women simple, evidence-based actionable strategies that slot easily into busy lives.”
On the topic of the connection between menopause and food, Emma said:
“While there’s no such thing as a specific menopause diet, a Mediterranean style way of eating can be a great starting point for women. That means lots of fresh, minimally processed produce where possible, including a range of fruit and vegetables, salads, some lean protein, whole grains, lentils and beans, nuts and seeds, some dairy and healthy fats from things like oily fish, olive oil and avocados.”
As well as working with Emma Bardwell, Florette has actively encouraged menopause education in the workplace and has signed up to the national Workplace Menopause Pledge. Florette is supporting employees through guides, wellbeing calendars and providing information and policy info.
